Bienvenue à Dojo! Welcome to Dojo! You have each received some information today about connecting with our Class Dojo to view your child's Dojo Story. Below is a short video that gives you a sense of the overall purpose of Dojo and what it looks like! I have also included here a troubleshooting document in case you have any problems connecting with our classroom. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions! Ask your child how Dojo is working in our class :)
Salut Printemps! Hello Spring! Welcome back from March Break! We are so glad to finally feel the weather warming up and to welcome the official beginning of Spring! Our classroom is looking ready for the new season and we are beginning to interact only in French in class as we earn our "pattes" (paws) for using French sentences with peers. We are reviewing our personal dictionaries and word walls often to help us out. We are also beginning to take French books home and it is SO exciting! Please check out the Resources tab under Other to find the classroom posters we are using for sounding out in French. These may be helpful to refer to at home as you come across new words! These have been reviewed in class and students know how to say these words - pay special attention to the bolded sections for the sound you are looking for. You can also find there the sentence starter wall we have in class to help us speak more French. See which sentence starters your child can finish! Nous avons visité la cabane à sucre! We visited the sugar shack!
Check out the pictures below to see what our morning at the Cabane looked like! Please also check out our resources tab under other to listen to some traditional Québec music and see the dancing that we tried out today in class! If you like, see if you can play the spoons at home using the video posted as a guide. Enjoy! Joyeux Carnaval! Happy Carnaval!
Today was a super awesome day at Forest Trail! We got to experience Carnaval for the first time ever - we watched Bonhomme arrive at the school, danced with him, participated in four winter games outside and then enjoyed hot chocolate delivered to our classroom! We also enjoyed doing the same activities given out to children who visit Carnaval in Québec! Look out for the booklets with the title page pictured above to check this out. All activities inside are what was handed out to young visitors of Carnaval this year! We also learned a little bit about les Cabanes à Sucre to prepare us for tomorrow's Cabane in the gym! We checked out a Cabane à Sucre in Saint-Eustache in Québec called Cabane Constantin and learned all about how maple syrup is tapped, cooked and served on snow for the delicious tire neige. Check out the pictures below and see what your child remembers! Carnaval s'approche! Carnaval is coming!
This thursday will be Carnaval day here at EFT! On Friday we made our ceintures to wear for the festivities and it was so much fun to learn all about the tradition of Carnaval and why it is celebrated! Parents and caregivers: take a look at our updated poems and songs sections here on the website under Resources to see some of our favourites this winter! Please also take a look under other to see our current unit in science all about textures - have fun playing at home by trying to describe the feeling of an object and guess what it is without looking all in French! Please practice the extended Février poem together at home! Starting on Monday we will be presenting our two favourite sections of the poem (separated by colour) for the class!
Nous avons fait des impressions! We made prints!
With Mme. Shin this week we learned to make our own prints using aluminum foil and paint! We thought about how the patterns we made would look when transferred to the paper and how our colours might blend together to make a couleur secondaire - secondary colour! Hier on a recontré l'auteur Mireille Messier! Yesterday we met the author Mireille Messier!
We had the awesome privilege of listening to Franco-Ontarian author Mireille Messier! She read to us her most recent book Ma Branche Préférée! The story was beautifully illustrated and so interesting. Mireille asked us lots of questions afterwards while we got to know each other and we were able to answer them in French! It was a really unique and fun experience. Ask your child what they remember about the story and her beloved tree Albert! Comment épelez...? How do you spell...?
Over the last few days while trying to find or think of words that begin with each letter of the alphabet we were able to practice using our very important phrase "Comment épelez...?" and putting those words in their special place on our white board. We came up with so many that we needed more space! It is very exciting to now be able to ask how to spell words we already know almost as often as we ask how to say things we want to know in French. It was awesome to see all the words we can think of on our own that start with certain letters of the alphabet in French! We have come so far! Parents & Caregivers: take a look at the Resources tab under Other to find a PDF version of our letters. If you would like to cut up more and continue playing with these letters they are available! Ask your child to randomly draw one from the baggie and see if they remember how to say the letter in French. Practice spelling their names with the letters as well! Qui hiberne en hiver? Who hibernates in winter?
Today we continued thinking about animals that hibernate and learned about six different animals and how they prepare! We learned about what they eat and where they hibernate. Keep an eye out for the six completed animal booklets coming home soon! Ask your child to share with you what they remember about each animal in French! |
