We have been focusing on functional French (French that helps us to accomplish what we need) and words and phrases we can use to make sure we are speaking as much French as possible in class! Ask your child about these phrases and what they mean. Encourage them to use them sometimes at home as well!
As your child may point out, we also often use "Puis-je...." instead of "Est-ce que je peux...." - remember that it is wonderful to use either way! Les vêtements - Clothing
We have been working on our knowledge of clothing items in french and thinking about how they relate to the weather. Check out our resources tab under Chansons - Novembre to see the weather song and a video we have used to learn some of the French words for clothing. As you are getting ready for school in the mornings ask your child to describe the weather and list the clothing they have on that day! There are also new items under resources! Check out the Histoires page to watch our la petite souris story and the poems page under November to see our Novembre poème. Ask your child to repeat these for you at home! L'Alphabet et les numéros! The alphabet and numbers!
Today we spent some time practicing the alphabet in French and reading out numbers in French by moving around to different matching game stations. Speaking in French only we were able to match letters and numbers with our small groups! Check out the french alphabet song now available under Resources -- Chansons -- Novembre if you want to practice this more at home with your child! Remember, our numbers 1-20 video is already available under Septembre. Regarder les horaires! Check out our schedules!
The schedules for both classes are now posted in the top right tab on this website under Schedules. These let you know when you child's class is in English or French throughout the week. Jour de Souvenir - Remembrance Day
Today we had the privilege of participating in the Remembrance day assembly. Both classes got the opportunity to display their wreaths made with Mrs. Menczel and take part in the solemn, important assembly. Both classes are very proud of their diverse wreaths! In French we spent some time practicing and thinking about the words that go along with this very special day. Check your child's pochette (zippie) for our activity about la recette pour la paix (the recipe for peace) and their colombe de paix (peace dove). It is not necessary to return these they are yours to keep! Ask your child what these remembrance day words mean. As a bonus - ask if they remember the very fun to say French word for poppy - coquelicot! Nos poèmes! Our poems!
Check out the Resources tab under Poèmes and then Octobre to see two more of our poems that we practiced together in October. These were part of what you saw in the French duotang you recently received! Ask your child to recite these poems for you - if they haven't already! Les feuilles changent! The leaves are changing! This week so far we have spent some time thinking about how leaves actually change colour. Using our science thinking we noticed that leaves change colours from the outside towards the centre, slowly turning into the new colour! Ask your child to explain this process to you using our french words for the colours. Vert (green) Rouge (red) and Jaune (yellow). You can also check out the video and activity below together! Au revoir l'Halloween, bonjour Novembre! Goodbye Halloween, hello November!
Today class 1-1 got their opportunity to paint with our wonderful Art teacher Mme. Shin! Class 1-2 was able to do this same activity a little while ago! Ask your child what ligne droite, ligne zigzag, ligne spirale, ligne courbe and ligne pointillé means (straight line, zigzag line, spiraled line, curved line, dotted line). Joyeux jeudi! Happy thursday! |
