Aujourd'hui nous avons porté nos lunettes scientifiques! Today we were wearing our science goggles!
Using our science thinking today we started talking about our current inquiry question: What do animals do in winter to survive? One of the things we thought about was hibernation and we learned about some animals that use this strategy to survive. Ask your child what hibernation means and what some animals do to prepare for it! Bienvenue à l'école! Welcome back to school!
Our classroom is ready for this new season and we are already hard at work again! We are enjoying learning about winter weather, vocabulary and science ideas! Below is an image of one of our activites 'En hiver, j'aime...' (In winter I love...). Ask your child to share in French what they love about winter! Parents and caregivers please note - in the next few weeks your child will be evaluated on their knowledge of the alphabet (naming the letters) and their ability to apply this knowledge and spell out words using their letters (especially their own names). They will also be evaluated on their knowledge of body parts (naming them) and their science application in being able to identify where on their body it is by pointing. For a list of body parts they will need to know please check under Resources -- Other and see the list of words and their translations that I will be using. There is also a photo of the anchor chart we have been using in class to refer to some of the key body parts. On aime les verbes! We love verbs!
Here is our verb wall in class. We have been using these verbs to help us make sentences and to interact with each other! Ask your child which of these verbs they recognize and encourage them to use them in sentences at home. You will notice underneath each verb is a sentence starter that begins with "Je" ("I"). Please check out the decembre section for resources and you will notice our December poem as well as the songs we have been enjoying this month! Parents and Caregivers please note: I will be sending home the December poem duotangs in January when we return to make it easier for everyone to keep track of them! Please enjoy the resources posted here for now. On a réussi! We did it!
Today's concert was fabulous and we are so proud! It was so much fun to show off all of our hard work for our families. This is a photo of us practicing with Ms. Konopka yesterday and the magic was already in the air! We are so glad we had such a large and enthusiastic audience to see our talent! Merci! Thank you! Notre arbre généalogique! Our family tree!
The family tree in the English room is starting to look very festive!
Aujourd'hui il neige! C'est l'hiver!
Today was our first snow fall during a school day and it now truly feels like winter! It was a great opportunity to practice our vocabulary for warm clothing and talking about the weather! Ask your child to describe today's weather and what they had to wear to be warm outside in French. Check out our current favourite song "C'est l'hiver" for the arrival of winter under Resources - Chansons - Décembre. 1-2 Parents & Caregivers: encourage your child to show you their red French duotang for November! 1-1 Parents & Caregivers: watch out for your child's green French duotang to come home tomorrow! Please return the duotangs by Tuesday :) This week we got the opportunity to learn about les couleurs primaires (primary colours) and how they can mix together to make les couleurs secondaires (secondary colours) with our wonderful Art teacher Mme. Shin! Ask your child to tell you how colours mix together and encourage them to use the French words for the colours!
Also - check out the newest song added under Resources -- Chansons -- Décembre to see our new and fun song that introduces winter! C'est L'Hiver! Reminder - watch out for the French duotangs coming home next week! We have been focusing on functional French (French that helps us to accomplish what we need) and words and phrases we can use to make sure we are speaking as much French as possible in class! Ask your child about these phrases and what they mean. Encourage them to use them sometimes at home as well!
As your child may point out, we also often use "Puis-je...." instead of "Est-ce que je peux...." - remember that it is wonderful to use either way! Les vêtements - Clothing
We have been working on our knowledge of clothing items in french and thinking about how they relate to the weather. Check out our resources tab under Chansons - Novembre to see the weather song and a video we have used to learn some of the French words for clothing. As you are getting ready for school in the mornings ask your child to describe the weather and list the clothing they have on that day! There are also new items under resources! Check out the Histoires page to watch our la petite souris story and the poems page under November to see our Novembre poème. Ask your child to repeat these for you at home! |
